First Things First
Before we go any further, we would like to come upfront with the issues we feel are most important - specifically, those regarding safety and emergency situations.
DO's
-
Make sure that all the taps on the appliance are turned off before you turn on its isolating valve.
-
Keep the area near the gas appliance and gas connection free of clutter.
-
Clean up after each use. Accumulated grease and spillovers can cause a fire. Besides, this is much easier than facing a major clean up job later.
-
Close the isolating valve when the gas appliances will not be used for long periods, especially if you're going on a holiday.
-
Replace the rubber tubes when needed. Call your CAC Officer if you want to have the tubes checked or replaced if necessary.
-
Carry out the soap suds test if you suspect a gas leak. Dissolve enough soap in water to create bubbles. Apply solution to the hose and/or pipe that leads to your gas appliance using a sponge. observe for bubbles caused by escaping gas.
-
Call your CAC Officer at Hotline 885-2525 or 555-0001 (local 2525) immediately after the soapsud test for further assistance.
DONT's
-
If your cooking stove is placed near a window, never hang a curtain which could blow over the range and create a fire hazard, or which could allow the wind to blow out the flame. Instead, use blinds or other materials that do not blow with the wind.
-
Avoid boil-overs or spill-overs when using your gas stove. These can cause the flame to leap out from the side of your pot.
-
Never put flammable items near the burners as these may cause a fire.
-
In case of leaks, do not operate any electrical switch or appliance.
